At a meeting with Watford Borough Council earlier this week, Watford & Three Rivers Trust (W3RT) gave an update on the services run by their My Wellbeing team and volunteers. One service that was of particular focus and discussed in greater detail was Community Cars which is supporting the community with the vaccine roll out.
Community Cars provides journeys for those unable to use public transport due to mobility or health issues. The service uses volunteer drivers and serves residents across Watford and Three Rivers areas, providing safe, reliable and affordable travel. With the vaccine roll out, demand for the service has increased significantly and W3RT need more volunteer drivers urgently.
Peter Taylor Elected Mayor of Watford offered his support:
“We are very pleased that we are able to support this amazing project. Looking after our residents’ wellbeing is so important and this service helps people who may be isolated to stay connected and access vital facilities.
Driver recruitment is essential to support our community members, especially during this difficult time. This service will support the vaccine roll out, so the focus for recruited drivers will be to help with appointments. The vaccine roll-out is critical for us to stay safe, protect lives and get through this pandemic. Thank you to everyone who has helped so far and to those who can help with this project.”
Other W3RT volunteer vacancies urgently needed
W3RT are looking for 150 volunteers to help with a range of other services:
My Wellbeing team, on all their current volunteer vacancies said:
“We have around 245 volunteers supporting over 1500 elderly, vulnerable and isolating community members in our local area. So we need more support. The benefits of volunteering with us are:
Volunteers can choose the time and day when it’s good for them to complete a job,
We are right behind our Volunteers helping to organise the details and support them through the process,
Volunteers can access, download and use an app directly on their mobile phone,
We will help to get volunteers up and running and process their expenses, which is 50 pence per mile, or £5 expenses per shop.
We Value our Volunteers and hope to hear from community members who want to join soon.”
